ASUS preparing a flagship Zephyrus with AMD Ryzen 6000 series CPU and NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti graphics

A device listed as GX650 is a next-gen ROG Zephyrus Duo notebook design with dual screens. According to MyLaptopGuide, this laptop series is to feature both the latest (and still unreleased) AMD Ryzen CPUs and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 GPUs.

The website claims to have found the listing of the ASUS GX650 series, a successor to GX551. The listing appears on the Bluetooth SIG ‘Launch Studio’ certification database, which lists as many as three variants of the GX650 laptops: RX, RW, and RM, each likely carrying different GPU configurations. The second letter indicates which GPU is being used. That said, the X and W do not really match any of the existing NVIDIA RTX 30 GPUs, which might confirm that ASUS/NVIDIA will be launching at least two new GPU configurations, including the rumored RTX 3080 Ti for laptops:

  • #I/#C: RTX 3050
  • #E: RTX 3050 Ti
  • #M: RTX 3060
  • #R: RTX 3070
  • #S: RTX 3080
  • #Y: RX 6800M
  • #X: RTX 3080 Ti
  • #Z: RTX 3080 Ti
  • #W: ?

Interestingly the same website has already shared rumored specs of the ROG STRIX G15 gaming laptop. Supposedly a G533variant also carries an RTX 3080 Ti GPU. So either there are two variants of this GPU or the site is simply making guesses. In fact, besides the data shared by Bluetooth SIG listing, the website has failed to provide the source of the information they are sharing, which leads us to believe it is simply a guess.

Both AMD and NVIDIA are expected to announce their new laptop components at CES 2022. If rumors are to be believed AMD Ryzen 6000 series codenamed Rembrandt-H are based on refined 6nm process technology but still based on Zen3 microarchitecture (although called Zen3+). The RTX 3080 Ti Laptop graphics card, on the other hand, is supposedly using entirely new silicon called GA103S.
