ASRock Z790 and H770 motherboards

We received information on upcoming ASRock Z790 and H770 motherboard series.

It is not a surprise that 13th Gen Core CPUs known as ‘Raptor Lake’ will support DDR4 memory technology. After all, these series are based on the same architecture as Alder Lake, and they’re using the same desktop LGA1700 socket. However, until now there was no direct confirmation that the Z790 series will include DDR4 memory variants.

The list of ASRock’s Z790 and H770 motherboards includes DDR4 variants of some boards. This is not the full list, but rather models that are now confirmed to be in active development:

The company is now working on Z790 flagship and H770 mid-range series. Models from Phantom Gaming Lightning/Riptide, Steel Legend, Pro and also Taichi series can be found on the list. Around January this year, Biostar confirmed to be working on Z790 and B760 series. Nearly half a year later, now with new information from ASRock, one might wonder if all chipsets will be ready for launch at the same time.

Intel Raptor Lake CPUs are set to launch between Q3 and Q4 this year. These are upgraded Intel 7 processors with increased Efficient core count to 16. What this means is that Raptor Lake CPUs will have twice the number of Gracemont (small) cores compared to Alder Lake. Furthermore, enhancements to overclocking are among the listed features.

The 13th Gen Core CPUs will be compatible with Alder Lake systems and vice versa. Intel is yet to confirm the exact benefits of 700-series chipsets over the current generation. These motherboards will compete against AMD X670(E)/B650 series ready for next-gen Zen4 Ryzen processors.
